Bontrager Race X-Lite Pro
On first look we liked these tyres and have liked previous tyres from Bontrager. Once we fitted them on everything looks they seem good quality and well made they have a silica/carbon tread compound that should give traction when on the road.
Once out on the road they felt good it was slightly damp when we tested them but we still got good grip into the corners. There wasn’t much tyre noise at high speed and they feel smooth on flat tarmac. The one negative is that after only a few hours use there was a lot of cuts on them, this didn’t result in any flats for us but there were more than we would have expected.
Serotta HSG Carbon 2009 £4180.20
The American maker Serotta has brought out its latest offering pitched at high performance racing. It is beautiful made and is full HSG carbon frame giving a weight of 7.2Kg for our setup. Overall the frame looks very slender but it has been reinforced in the key areas of the head tube and bottom brackets using titanium.
The frames tubes seem solid to the touch and this feeling continues our on the road. It is not the stiffest that we have ever test but this is not necessarily a bad thing as it does still solid and responsive enough when accelerating hard or on climbs. It absorbed the bumps of the rough road and gave an overall smooth ride.
Overall this is a great frame but it comes at a high price.
CycleOps SuperMagento Pro turbo trainer
Lets face it turbo trainers might be boring but they beet having to go out in the cold dark rain so here is one of the latest offerings from CycleOps. This one is part of a range of three recently released by CycleOps who have been a leading name in turbo trainers for some time now.
This is sold as a straight out of the box solution with no need for spanners to assemble or adjust. This makes it very user friendly and quick to get going. The bake can be clamped in quickly thanks to the new quick-lock cam lever which is easier to use than older models. The whole thing feels very solid and stable it has an adjustable foot on the front left leg that accommodates wonky floors.
The resistance settings are also very impressive, there are four to choose from and moving between them there is a definite change. Adjustment is don eon the side of the unit so can’t be done while in use.
Overall this is a great unit it’s quieter than a lot we have used and the big bonus is that it feels very smooth to use. If they added a remote control for the resistance it would be even better.
